In a recent law enforcement operation conducted in Chueza locality in Tete, two 10kg ivory tusks were successfully recovered and removed from circulation in the illegal wildlife trade. The individual attempting to sell the product was apprehended in flagrant.
The trafficker was found to be in communication with the poacher responsible for the elephant's demise. It was disclosed that the tusks were obtained from the poacher under the guise of selling them at a moderate price per kilogram, with the intention of splitting the proceeds evenly. However, contrary to the agreement, the trafficker attempted to sell the ivory at an exorbitant price per kilogram.
Upon apprehension, the individual was promptly referred to the local SERNIC office in the Doa district for further legal proceedings.
This operation underscores the ongoing efforts to combat wildlife crime and dismantle the networks fueling it. By disrupting the flow of illegal wildlife products and holding perpetrators accountable, law enforcement agencies contribute significantly to the preservation of endangered species and the protection of biodiversity.
