Pangolin Saved from Illegal Trade

Information was received indicating that a live pangolin was being offered for sale in Dombe, Sussundenga District, supposedly captured somewhere within the buffer zone of Chimanimani National Park.

In a joint operation with ANAC and SERNIC, four individuals were intercepted in Dombe while attempting to sell the pangolin. According to their accounts, they had been in possession of the animal for approximately three days, claiming to have captured it within the park's buffer zone. It was discovered that this was not their first offense of this nature.

The pangolin displayed advanced signs of weakness, with cuts on its upper scales and emitting a foul odor, suggesting it had been in the possession of the detainees for a longer period. The individuals involved were subsequently handed over to the SERNIC authorities in the Sussundenga District, where the necessary legal procedures were followed and the pangolin was taken care of and reintroduced into its natural habitat.
