Ivory Traffickers Apprehended in Mozambique's Chimanimani National Park

A report came in about two elephant tusks, each weighing 50kg, that were being sold within the Chimanimani National Park.

On August 6, 2023, in the Manica province, within the Sussundenga district at the Moha administrative post, a joint operation involving ANAC and SERNIC exposed a group of four traffickers carrying these two pieces of ivory.

The poacher responsible for the elephant's killing admitted to hunting the animal in Chimanimani National Park, along with an accomplice who was not involved in the sale. They confessed to luring the elephant into a large pit and subsequently killing it.

The exact tools used for the act remain undisclosed, but the police are actively investigating the case. Shockingly, the perpetrator also revealed that this was not his first instance of such illegal elephant poaching activities.
