A report came in about four lion teeth and fifteen lion claws being offered for sale in Beira. This particular product had typically found its way to Chinese buyers, but with most of them having left Beira, the usual clientele for these items had dwindled.
The same seller also disclosed that he was facilitating the sale of ivory tips in Nhamatanda, which were eventually sold to an individual in Maputo. Currently, in addition to lion parts, he is brokering a deal for 400 kilograms of ivory in Dowa.
In a successful collaborative effort with ANAC and SERNIC, a mission was executed, leading to the detention of the trafficker. He was apprehended in possession of four lion teeth and fourteen lion claws at Chipangara Square in the city of Beira, where he intended to make the sale.
Unfortunately, extracting more information proved challenging, as the suspect denied any direct involvement in these activities and claimed to have no connection to the aforementioned incidents. He stated that he had been directed by another individual and was instructed to deliver the items to an unidentified third party.
