Arrest Made in Ivory Trafficking Case

On March 25, 2023, a suspect was apprehended in possession of two ivory tusks in Maluana. The Mozambican citizen was found with the contraband and had intentions to sell it.

According to her statements, she had been contacted by an individual in Zambezia who informed her about a variety of wildlife products available for sale, including ivory tusks, pangolins, and rhinoceros horns, all originating from the Zambezia province. The suspect claimed that another person had received the ivory tusks from Zambezia concealed within a wooden suitcase with a false bottom.

The accused is currently in custody and has confessed to several methods used for transporting these illegal products, which include concealing them in bags of charcoal, wooden transportation crates, and suitcases with secret compartments. This was a joint operation carried out in partnership with ANAC and SERNIC.
